GM Jacob Fuqua is standing at the podium waiting for the press to take their seats.
JF: “Good afternoon everyone. We haven’t held many press conferences in our teams’ tenure, but today felt as if we needed one in light of what happened on Sunday.”
Jacob Fuqua takes a deep breath and says, “We lost our first regular season game since…well a long time. In light of that we thought we would make Willie (Pless) available to talk and a few players have also asked to speak today. Willie should be here shortly.”
Jacob steps down from the podium and sits in a chair next to the stage. The press starts to murmur while they wait for Willie to come into the room. After a minute or so Willie walks in, he stops and looks towards everyone in the room and then continues to the podium.
WP: “I guess I’m supposed to take some questions”
Reporter: “How do you feel about the game against Delmarva?”
WP: “I’m pissed”
Reporter: “………………………………………..is that all you have to say?”
WP: “yes”
Reporter: “Do you feel like the refs missed calls or anything that happened in the game was bad?”
WP: “no”
Jacob steps up to the podium and whispers into Willie’s ear.
Reporter: “Is there anything you want to say besides yes or no?”
WP: “Sure”
Reporter: “…………………..okay? Go on”
WP: “Delmarva played great and they beat us, it sucks and I’m pissed about it. We’ve watched a lot of film already and we’re preparing to fix our mistakes and push on to Philadelphia. My guys are hard workers and they all showed up here yesterday, on their day off, to watch film and to get some training in. They are pissed about the lost too and don’t want to have that feeling again. Thanks for your time but I have some players to meet with”
Willie walks off the stage and whispers to Jacob then proceeds to exit the room. Jacob stands back at the podium and says, “The few players should be here shortly to answer any questions you may have”.
After a few minutes a waiting the players walk into the room. Kevin Labeck, Jim Holcombe, and Brandon Graham takes a seat the table next to the podium with Jacob where staff placed some microphones while waiting.
KL: “Good afternoon. We’re here not to really take any questions but to talk to you as some of the leaders of the team. I’ve been here since the beginning with Chicago and been through many ups and downs with the team on and off the field, but Sunday hurt. Not as bad as losing the Cup game against San Antonio, but it still hurt. Delmarva played one hell of a game against us and they came out on top. We know that being who we are and what we have accomplished the last few years that we are going to get everyone’s best game. On Sunday we were outplayed and outlasted by Delmarva.”
JH: “On the plane back to Chicago Sunday, the team made a decision together that we would all come to the training facility on Monday and watch film. After film, players who needed treatment would go do their treatments and the rest of us hit the field for a players practice. Watching the film should us areas that needed work and how Delmarva exploited them. We want to let the fans know that we don’t like losing and we don’t plan on losing again. We are going to work hard as a team to improve our areas that need improvement and give our fans what they want and what Chicago hasn’t had in a long time, a football championship”
BG: “It has been since 1985 since the Bears won the Super Bowl and 2006 when Chicago Rush won the AFL championship. The city of Chicago needs a football championship and we still plan to get them that OIFL Cup. So, us sitting here talking today is not for you guys sitting in this room but for the fans of the blues and the citizens of Chicago. We’re sitting here today letting you know that we are not going to continue faltering and we will bring back our winning ways and we will bring you a championship!”
Labeck, Holcombe, and Graham stand up and walk out of the room while the press start shouting their questions at the players and trying to get their attention, but they continue out of the room. Jacob stands up to the podium and shouts at the press to get their attention and calm them down.
JF: “I agree wholeheartedly with what my players said. Sunday was just a speed bump on our road to the cup. We will bring home that cup for this city”
Jacob steps off the podium and heads out of the room.
