The Texas Terrors today about their new coaching staff as well as a complete overhaul of their management structure. The first announcement made was that Don Carthel would be given a ten percent ownership stake in the team and the title of President of Football Operations. I cannot be more excited for this opportunity said Carthel. I am excited to be back as a part of this organization. The second announcement was that Mister Texas Terror himself, Markelle Cox, was also given a ten percent ownership stake in the team and the title of General Manager. I have talked to Mr. Ratliff about staying with this team long after my playing career ends. I never thought it would be as minority owner and General Manager. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the Terrors. Both announcements were a little surprising considering that Buster Ratliff has maintained complete control of the team since its inception. I told you there would be changes said Ratliff. Don’s mind in setting up a system and evaluating talent is second to none in my opinion, and Markelle is the epitome of what it means to be a Texas Terror. I put my full faith and confidence in both men to lead this organization to even greater heights.
The final announcement of the day was made by new President of Football Operations, Don Carthel. Carthel laid out what the criteria for the new head coach was. Buster, Markelle, and I sat down and each made our top three list. One name appeared on all three lists and was the first name on all three lists. Carthel then revealed that name was Graham Harrell. With the history of this organization and level of success I am thrilled to be the Head Coach of this team said Harrell. This roster is ready to win now and for the next several years and it will be my job to continually put this team in contention. I wish the season started tomorrow. Harrell then announced the rest of this coaching staff. Those coaches are Joe Brady (offense), Todd Bates (defense), and Chris Peach (special teams). I think Joe brings a unique perspective to the offensive side of the ball and get the most out of the talent we have. Todd knows how to get the most grit and fire and nasty out of a defense and that is what we need. Chris is just knowledgeable about the game of football and will bring that to his work with the special teams.
Buster added I think it is evident that it is a new day for the Texas Terrors. I think the new ideas and a new vision are exactly what we need. Don and Markelle already have an outline for what this offseason will be. Cox ended everything saying that he and Carthel along with Harrell and his coaching staff will be putting out a trade block by the end of the week and that there will be some roster turnover in the transition.
