It was announced a couple of weeks ago and finalized last week, the Green Bay Axemen are the newest Franchise in the Online Indoor Football League and will begin play during the 2023 Season. Green Bay isn't your typical Expansion Franchise however, as they enter the league with the backing of seasoned veterans to the League and the Indoor Football game.
The Owner of the Green Bay Franchise is none other than former Omaha Blackhawks/Iowa Redemption Owner Matt Patten. Matt was the Owner and General Manager of a Redemption team that made it to the OIFL Cup XIV where they fell to the Tampa Bay Marauders 69-54. Patten left the league a few seasons later to pursue other business ventures but ultimately decided that it was the right time to return. "I have been following the OIFL since I left, and I still have many great friends in the league." Said Patten in a statement, he continued; "When I left the OIFL I did so because I felt that my voice wasn't being heard among the owners within the league, but honestly I had the wrong mindset back then. This time around, I have a clear mind, and a goal of building the best possible franchise for the People of Green Bay and bringing an OIFL Cup to Title Town USA!"
Patten isn't coming alone, he has brought in a star studded cast with him in the Front office and Coaching Staff. Max Shockey, former Blackhawks/Redemption head coach returns to the OIFL as the General Manager of the Axemen, but it doesn't end there as Colin Stotts, a former 2 time OIFL Cup champion with the Texas Terrors has been hired as the Head Coach. Joining Stotts on the sidelines for the Axemen is Former OIFL Cup Champion and OIFL Hall of Famer Pauly Dozer who will serve as the Offensive Coordinator in Green Bay, and along side Dozer is another former player and 2 time OIFL Cup Champion and sure to be future Hall of Famer, Benny Glass who will be the team's Defensive Coordinator. The final member of the coaching staff is Special Teams Coordinator Tom Taylor.
"Our Front Office and Coaching staff are second to none in the league. With Max (Shockey) guiding the ship as General Manager and Colin (Stotts), Benny (Glass), Pauly (Dozer) and Tom (Taylor) leading this team I know that this franchise is set up for success. It might take a couple of seasons, but if the fans can buy in and show us the support that I know Green Bay fans can, the sky is the limit for this team."
The Axemen have planned a press conference for after the July 4th Holiday the team will reveal their uniforms for the 2023 OIFL Season.
