The Houston Marshals Front Office has been busy over the last few weeks. After a myriad of deals to bring in quality depth at key positions including OIFL Champion QB James Marple, RB/LB Dan Sochowitz along with K Jacob Zie, and recent signing DS Percy Abrahamson, both of whom the Marshals believe will fill into starting roles next season, rumors are swirling that Houston was still looking to make a splash as the parity in the league is at an all time hight.
Our inside sources have reported that the Marshals are in deep discussions regarding linemen Eliot Quickmon and Matt Metzger of the New York Mean Machine. Quickmon and Metzger were bookends to a line that included Elliot Eades last year to form the best trio in the league. Eades was dealt to Washington earlier this week in a deal that Houston was "disappointed" to have missed out on. We are hearing that in order to complete this trade, the Marshals are having to move a lot of valued pieces within the franchise. Young star WR Rowell Danforth is rumored to being the centerpiece of the deal heading back to New York along with two of the Marshals starting line last year. We anticipate that being Jim Kettelle and Frank Hartman when all is said and done. Other pieces are reportedly involved in the deal as well. If a deal is finalized, the Marshals will boast one of the best defensive lines in league history. Greg Helm, Eliot Quickman, Matt Metzger, and Miguel Monzano would highlight a group that accounted for almost 50 sacks last year which included missed time for two of those players due to injury.
We caught up with the Marshals front office who said, "We have no official statements at this time, other than that we are always trying to improve our eight players on the field. If we can make a deal that we feel gets us closer to a cup, then we will research it deeply and try to find a way to make this team the top in the league. I think you have seen that this offseason with the players we've added. We've upgraded our QB room with a OIFL Champ, we upgraded our kicking game with one of the best in the league, we believe we upgraded our DS spot with our recent FA signing. We hope to have an official announcement in the next couple of days that will show the Marshal fanbase that we are serious about bringing a cup to Houston."
