The Texas Terrors have completed their second trade of the offseason. The first sent RBDB Billy Brawn and $1M to the Delmarva Legacy in exchange for RBLB Edem Barnes. Texas Terrors General Manager Markelle Cox said Barnes is a player that fits future scheme for us. And this gives Brawn a chance at more playing time that he truly deserves.
The second trade happened earlier today between the Texas Terrors and the New York Mean Machine. This one alters both organizations for the foreseeable future. Texas sent OS Dale Andrews. WRLB Dan Murphy, all three 2023 entry draft picks, the D1-21, all three 2024 entry draft picks, and $2M to New York in exchange for WRDB Miquel Simpson, OLDL Harry Tomlinson, OS Vernon Tyler, OLDL Drew Early, and WRDB John Barba. Terrors General Manager Markelle Cox said the trade took a little over the day to complete, but conversations were constant throughout that time. We started talking yesterday just really seeing if there was interest and if both sides had the necessary pieces. I honestly think both gave up more than they intended when conversations started, but the trade fulfilled the needs both teams were looking for. [/i]When asked if the thought trading two years worth of draft picks impedes the future of the Terrors. Absolutely not[/i] said Cox,our plan was to move our picks this year for players heading into the offseason. As for next years picks, adding players like Simpson and Tomlinson makes this an easy trade. What they bring to the table over the next three or more years, is more than what the draft picks would have.[/i]
Cox stated that the two trades and the players they resigned, allow them to be more open in free agency and in some instances, a little more aggressive. Bringing back Herbie Greene, Bill Christoff, Eric Yates, Wayne Pratch, Jacob Tuioti, and Zul Sidi along with bringing in Miquel Simpson, Harry Tomlinson, Vernon Tyler, Edem Barnes, John Barba, and Drew Early gives us depth at all positions and there look at free agency as adding players we feel emphasize our strengths and shore up our weaknesses.[/i] Cox said they visited with twenty players in free agency and made offers on six of them. We visited with free agents all week and made our official offers to six of them and their agents last night. Hopefully with all six we can work on bringing them to Austin. But, even if we do not, we are happy with where our team is heading into training camp.[/i] Cox did state that Texas is still talking to a few other teams about possible trades but right now, all there is, is discussion.
