The sun is shining brightly outside The Coop and the temperatures are unseasonably warm in Salisbury, Maryland. Head coach Brian Clothier takes his position at the DelMarVa Legacy podium amid camera flashes and a roar from the reporter gallery as they jockey to have their question heard first. Coach Clothier raises a hand to silence the sea of journalists as he leans in toward the microphone.
Coach Brian Clothier - "Welcome everyone. Quite a turnout today. Thank you for being here. I have about ten minutes, so I'll try to get as many of your questions in before we have to jump the plane for the venue."
Clothier smiles and nods to the right side of the press pool as he points a friendly finger in that direction. "Yes, Bruce."
Bruce Cunningham - "Coach, you will be entering the fourth OIFL Cup appearance of your career. Do you feel this gives you an advantage over LA?"
Clothier - "Bruce, these are two evenly matched teams - speed, strength, leadership. Both teams have these attributes in spades. But if you're looking for advantage, look no further than this coaching staff and the work ethic of these coaches and players. They're the reason we're here and hopefully, they're the reason we bring The Cup back to The Coop this Sunday."
Bob Haney - "Coach, does the loss of Sam Andrews have a large impact on this game and your preparations?"
Clothier - " Of course you want to be 100% going into the championship game, but you also have to have a 'Next Man Up' mentality. Keith is an exceptional kicker and I think he'll prove himself an asset this weekend."
The coach draws back and takes a breath before pushing back into the podium. "I should add that our medical staff is working diligently to get Sam and Paul back on the field. So, there's still a good chance that we'll have some more bodies on the bench come gametime."
Zach Parnes - "With these two teams so evenly matched, who wins The Cup and what's the score."
Clothier - "I wouldn't be here if I didn't think we could win, Zach. As far as predictions, I don't do those. I prepare, practice, and improve. I just plan to score at least one more point than the other guys. Thank you. See you when we touch down."
Coach Clothier steps away from the podium and waves goodbye as he is lead behind a curtain and toward the direction of a waiting team bus. The echoes of more questions ring out and the flashes of the cameras continue to light the room as Clothier exits.
