Today the DC Conspiracy confirmed rumors of a trade with the New York Mean Machine in which the Conspiracy acquired OLDL Daniel Beard, WRDB Kevin Sherman and OS Chris Cooper in exchange for WRDB Ike Chavayda (whom DC just acquired from New York a couple weeks ago in another trade), OSs D'ed Poole and Ronconaghuey Moss, and OLDL Harry Tomlinson along with multiple draft picks. Beard and Sherman are both All-Star caliber players whom have been regarded as among the best in the game at their respective positions.
During a post-practice media session Head Coach Steve "The Jerk" Martin was asked his thoughts about the major trade. "I'm not happy to lose the guys we're losing, we had good chemistry and we're putting people in their places this year. That said, the guys I hear are coming in are at the top of the league in their positions, have been for a while now. Beard is always a guy you have to plan your blocking around and Sherman tilts the field on both sides of the ball." Martin continued; "I talked to Dan [Beard] on the phone already, he reached out knowing that he had little time to get game-ready and we'll do our best to get him up to speed. He might not start this week but we'll work him in and he'll definitely see the field. Sherman is a couple weeks out with an injury so he'll use that time to learn the playbook and be ready to go once he heals up. I will tell you all though, once the new guys work in this will not be a team I would want to coach against."
Few question that Sherman and Beard will eventually break the starting lineup. Among the receivers, WRDB Rasheide Benefield has been the team's top receiver, so it's likely Sherman will end up alongside Benefield in the lineup. The lineman group with Beard is a little more complicated, but speculation is that Faber would be the one to sit, allowing for the most athletic version of the line to start.
This week DC is on the road against the Seattle Cybercats, then will return to the Oculus Center to attempt to avenge their only loss of the year against division rival London.
